Irish Woman Ends Life in Swiss ‘Suicide Pod’
An Irish woman ended her life by sitting inside a suicide pod in Switzerland. She reportedly paid the company more than £15,000 for the procedure.
According to media reports, the woman, identified as Maureen Sulla, had told her family that she was going on holiday. In reality, she traveled to Switzerland, where she had applied to end her life through the use of a specialized suicide pod.
Maureen had informed her relatives that she was visiting Lithuania for a vacation, but two of her close friends knew about her plan. They later revealed to her daughter that she had gone to Switzerland to undergo assisted suicide.
The very next day, Maureen’s daughter received a WhatsApp message informing her that her mother had passed away. The family was told that the body would be sent back within 6 to 8 weeks.
Reports state that Maureen had quietly submitted an application to a company that facilitates assisted suicide.
The method used was the Sarco pod, a 3D-printed capsule designed to allow individuals to end their lives without medical supervision. First revealed in 2019, the pod stirred controversy worldwide.
According to media outlets, once inside the capsule, the person presses a button that rapidly lowers the oxygen level while increasing nitrogen concentration. This process causes unconsciousness, followed by death, within approximately 10 minutes
